Texas toll authorities cracking down on habitual violators
The following toll authorities have habitual toll violator programs in place (click on toll authority name for specific information):
- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)
- North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA)
- Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority (FBCTRA)
The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) has also approved a plan to intensify penalties for habitual toll violators. Although the policy has not yet taken effect, it is expected to do so in the coming months. The Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) does not currently have a habitual toll violator program in place.
For details on the criteria each toll authority uses to determine when a vehicle plate is listed as a habitual violator, please visit their respective websites. Repeated failures to pay tolls/fees could result in suspended vehicle registrations/blocked renewals, impounded vehicles and/or listing the registered owner’s name on the toll authority’s website.
