Texas changes inspection requirements
According to a new notice from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, some changes are coming to Texas drivers in regards to inspection requirements.
“Effective September 1, 2017, trailers, semitrailers and pole trailers with a gross vehicle weight of 7,500 lbs. or less are not required to be inspected,” the communication said. “All farm trailers, farm semitrailers and farm pole trailers continue to be exempt from the annual inspection requirement.”
The notice also included information on new fees. “Senate Bill 1001 established a new fee of $7.50 for trailers, semitrailers and pole trailers with a gross vehicle weight of 4,501 lbs. to 7,500 lbs. The new fee, which replaces the state’s portion of the inspection fee previously due, is required at the time of initial registration and with each registration renewal to support the Texas Mobility Fund, Clean Air Account, and the General Revenue Fund.”
